NEIGHBORHOOD
The Porta Ticinese neighborhood is a fascinating crossroads of Milanese history, fashion and culture. With its roots planted in the city's Roman and medieval history, Porta Ticinese stands out for its cobbled streets, historic buildings and arches, which are a nostalgic reference to the ancient city gates. This area is known for its bohemian spirit, which is expressed through vintage shops, young designers' ateliers and a lively art scene.
In this neighborhood, life moves around Corso di Porta Ticinese, an extension of the more central Corso di Porta Romana, both ideal routes for shopping and dining. The Columns of San Lorenzo, ancient Roman ruins, are a meeting point for young people and tourists, creating a unique atmosphere, where past and present merge. The nearby Basilica of San Lorenzo Maggiore, with its majestic architecture, houses treasures of Christian art.
Proceeding towards the Naviglio Grande, you come across the picturesque Navigli district, famous for its canals designed by Leonardo da Vinci. This area offers a wealth of bars, restaurants and art galleries, as well as the Ripa di Porta Ticinese antiques market, held on the last Sunday of the month.
The Darsena, recently renovated, represents the heart of water in the city, an ideal place for evening walks and aperitifs by the water. A little further on, the Parco delle Basiliche offers green spaces between the historic churches of San Lorenzo and Sant'Eustorgio, the latter home to the Diocesan Museum which houses the famous fresco by Pietro Cavallini.
Porta Ticinese also borders the Sant'Ambrogio district, where the prestigious Catholic University and the Basilica of Sant'Ambrogio stand, one of the oldest and most important places of worship in the city. Not far away, the "Leonardo da Vinci" Museum of Science and Technology invites you on a journey into science and innovation.
This neighborhood is not just limited to culture and entertainment, but is also a hub for mobility, with access to tram and subway lines that easily connect to areas such as Brera and the city center.
In summary, Porta Ticinese is a place where the Milanese tradition of yesterday meets the innovation and dynamism of today, offering a rich and varied experience to anyone who passes through it.
